Student Volunteer Opportunities

Would you like to be more involved in the Midwest Veterinary Conference? Are you looking for an opportunity to connect with experts in your field and maybe even meet with speakers one-on-one? If so, becoming a Session Presider or Assistant is the perfect way to take your Conference experience to the next level!

Please read the instructions below before you begin, as this addresses many common questions!

 

Session Assistants

What is a Session Assistant?

An Assistant works with the Session Presider to help make the session run smoothly by troubleshooting any issues so the Speaker can continue his or her presentation. In the event of a problem, Session Assistants help locate appropriate staff to resolve A/V equipment or room issues.

How do I sign up?

Volunteering is quick and easy! Read the following instructions before you get started, then click the button above to begin.

Note: Assistant sign-up will look very similar to regular MVC registration. Registering to assst in MVC 2013 sessions DOES NOT register you for the Conference.

1. Click the red button above to go to the volunteer opportunities sign-up page, then click on “Register for this Event.”

2. If you have used our registration system before, enter the e-mail address you provided us and your password to log in. If you have never logged in, use the default of "Password1" and then reset your password once you log in. If you have not registered with the OVMA in the past, click on “New Visitor Registration" and follow the prompts to set up your account.

3. On the "Select Registration Fee" page, "Assistant” with a $0.00 registration fee will be selected by default. Click “Next."

4. On the next page, check to make sure your name appears correctly. Then click "Next."

5. Search and select desired sessions in which you would like to preside. To search for specific session codes, enter the session number in the "Name" or "Keyword" field. NOTE: If you cannot select a box, this means that the session already has a presider, and it will say "Session Full" after the title. Once you have made all your selections, you may click on "My Agenda" to confirm or delete your entries. Once you are satisfied with your selected sessions, click “Next."

6. On the next page, click “Register Now" to complete your presider registration.

You will be sent a confirmation e-mail stating which sessions you have signed up to assist.

How can I change the sessions I'm assisting in?

If you would like to make any changes after registering, simply log in and go to "My Events" (located under "My Profile" in the left sidebar). Find "MVC 2013 Session Assistants" and click "Add Sessions" to select any additional sessions you would like to volunteer for. If you need to remove a session, please contact volunteer coordinator Aimee Ruble.

What is a Session Presider?

A Session Presider serves as an ambassador to a Speaker and introduces him or her before the session. (Don’t worry, we will prepare a short speech for you!)

In case the session does not have a session assistant, then the Presider will help make the session run smoothly by troubleshooting any issues so the Speaker can continue his or her presentation. In the event of a problem, the Presider or Session Assistant will help locate appropriate staff to resolve A/V equipment or room issues.
