CONTINUING EDUCATION
You can earn up to 24 hours of CE (1 credit per hour of sessions and/or hands-on labs) if you elect to attend the full Conference and attend a session during each time slot on all four days.
The Midwest Veterinary Conference is a preapproved provider of CE by the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board, and nearly all other state veterinary boards accept the OVMLB’s approval for their own state CE approval.(Texas is the known exception.) As such, we do not go through the RACE process and therefore are not RACE accredited.
This information will updated once information on next year's conference becomes available.
If you select sessions to attend during the registration process, this information becomes part of your electronic record with the OVMA. You will be provided a copy of the selected sessions in your e-mail confirmation. If you need another copy after the Conference, please contact the OVMA. Please remember, the OVMA can only provide this information if you signed up for individual sessions when registering.
A Record of Continuing Education form will be available in the on-site program. It provides a place to record the date, title, speaker and the number of hours attended. You can also use the MVC mobile app to plan your schedule.
The Ohio Veterinary Medical Association is a pre-approved provider of continuing education by the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board. As such, Ohio veterinarians and technicians can count OVMA-hosted programs towards their Ohio CE requirement. While we can not verify the acceptance of OVMA programs by other state boards of veterinary medicine, the Midwest Veterinary Conference has historically been considered acceptable continuing education by other states. (Texas is the known exception.)
Some states* do require the licensee to complete and have signed the CE record form found in the On-Site Program; check with your state's licensing board to find out what is required.
If your state requires a signature from the hosting organization, fill out the Certificate of Attendance form in the on-site program and bring it to the Attendee Assistance counter before you leave to have an OVMA staff person sign it. If you forgot to obtain this on site, please contact the OVMA.
*Ohio license renewal requirements do NOT require a signature.
A blank certificate of attendance is included in the on-site program. If you need a signature for license renewal, you can ask an OVMA staff member to sign it before you leave.
You can log in to your attendee record to download and print your certificate. After logging in with your registration email address and confirmation number, click on the "Print Options" button and select "Certificate of Attendance" from the drop-down menu. (See screenshot below.) A PDF will be saved to your download folder and can be printed as needed.
You can edit your selections if you change your mind by logging into your online account (instructions will be in your confirmation email). However, if you wish to attend hands-on labs and/or special events, you must register for these in advance.
Each session includes a target audience and content level, which are provided by our speakers to help registrants select courses that are best suited for their position and knowledge level. CE sessions are not restricted to specific individual types; any attendee may sign up for any session, regardless of these suggestions.
However, due to the interactive nature of hands-on labs and workshops, these programs are designed for specific attendee types, based on the training and education those individiuals receive, and therefore may be restricted to specific audiences.
Please read the session descriptions carefully to determine if the subject matter is appropriate; if so, you may contact OVMA to request an override. Keep in mind, however, that the cancellation and refund policy applies even if you change your mind or find that the material does not meet your level of expertise.
Some hands-on labs require an additional fee, but because these prices are fixed, there is no early registration discount.
All labs and workshops require advance registration, even those that do not have an additional fee or maximum capacity. Depending on the nature of the program, you may or may not be able to sign up for it on site. To be safe, we recommend registering during the Tier I registration period.
Participation in these programs may be limited and is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis; as such, we advise you to sign up as early as possible.
You can find out whether a program has reached capacity by checking the Program Changes & Updates page prior to beginning your registration.
If a program is full, click the "Add to Waitlist" button on the Session Selection page of online registration, or contact OVMA to request being added to the waitlist after your registration is completed. You will be contacted automatically via email if/when a spot opens up.
When you sign up for a lab, you acknowledge that understand and agree to the following:
Log in to your account using your email address and confirmation number (found in your registration confirmation email). Once logged in, you will see your registration details, including a list of sessions you signed up for. You can also view your session selections in the MVC mobile app by tapping the "Schedule" icon on the home screen.
If you would like to make changes to your schedule, you may do so in the MVC mobile app or by modifying your registration. Please note, you can only add labs via the online registration system, not in the app.
Registrants will be able to access the Conference Proceedings in early February. Login information will be sent via email once the proceedings go live, as well as be included in the mailed confirmation packet.
Instructions for accessing the Conference Proceedings online will be included in your confirmation e-mail and mailed packet.
Session documents are accessible via the mobile app as well. Tap on a session and scroll down to the Documents section to view and download. [See instructions]
If you would like a flash drive of the notes, you may pick one up when you arrive on site; they will not be mailed prior to the Conference.
We strongly encourage you to download and/or print your notes before arriving at the MVC, for the following reasons:
The MVC makes every effort to collect presentations and notes from speakers. However, be advised that not all speakers provide these documents.
If a session does not include documents, it is likely because that speaker did not provide these materials—either because they do not wish to make them available or they missed the deadline to submit them for pre-MVC access. In the event we receive them at a later date, we will update the online conference proceedings. Refer to the Program Changes & Updates page to find out if/when additional materials are available.
No, the MVC does not audio or video record any sessions.
Through support from the Ohio Animal Health Foundation, the MVC is able to offer a limited number of scholarships to help offset the financial burden of attending an educational event. This gives shelter workers the ability to gain valuable training they might not otherwise have access to because of financial limitations.
Each award covers the FULL registration of one individual, either a veterinarian or non-veterinarian staff member.
Award winners are responsible for covering any additional expenses beyond their registration, including travel-related costs.
Any veterinary professional who works with an animal shelter or humane society* can be awarded a scholarship, including including shelter veterinarians, technicians, staff, dog wardens, animal control officers, humane society personnel, humane agents/investigators, rescue groups, and shelter volunteers.
*Because of the low rates already offered to full-time students, they are not eligible to apply.
Shelter workers must apply online during the designated application period (TBA).
Scholarships will be awarded based on need, application essay, and prior receipt of this award. A single organization may receive up to two awards.
Applicants will be contacted via email the week after the application period closes. Specific dates will be posted here as the MVC nears.
No, please DO NOT register until after scholarships are awarded. Each time we accept or refund a credit card, OVMA has to pay a fee—which could eat into your scholarship money. Applicants who do not receive an award will still be able to take advantage of discounted registration prices after awards are announced.
One exception to this rule is in the case of hands-on labs and workshops. Because they have a limited capacity, they could potentially close before awards are made. If you would like to attend a lab even if you do not receive a scholarship, you should register for it as soon as possible. You can register under the Hands-On Lab ONLY option, which will require you only pay for the lab and not the rest of the conference.
Your award letter will include a discount code for online registration, so all you have to do is decide who from your organization will be using the scholarship and sign them up online! For complete instructions, please refer to your award letter.
You are not required to attend only the Shelter Animal sessions; you may attend any sessions you wish. However, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of the Shelter Animal tracks, as they offer four days of shelter-focused education from a number of highly regarded shelter experts.
No. Awards are made before advance registration closes, so applicants who do not receive a scholarship will still have plenty of time to register at the discounted prices.
